His academic and design achievements have lead to numerous awards such as the W.T. Shaver Travelling Scholarship and the Provost Graduate Fellowship. Simon’s final research project explores the notion of a decentralized museum as an artifact that brings art to the residential neighborhoods of the city. It tries to question people’s relationship to art, to reorder the exclusivity of the art world within communities, and to bring it back to the public realm. During his traveling scholarship to Berlin, Moscow, St. Petersburg and Helsinki in 2009, Simon looked at the cities through the theme On Grids, Collapsing Walls and the Edge of Chaos. His professional experience and travels to places such as Greece, Italy and France allow him to have a different perspective on the place of art and architecture in Canada.
