Summer phase of work begins for MMOT [ MMOT ]
Tuesday May 1st, 2012
The summer phase of work has begun for the SSHRC grant Modeling the Methodologies of Our Time. This 3-year Research-Creation grant is focused on the tools and techniques that shape and inform contemporary modes of architectural making. This summer phase welcomes returning and new RAs Dan Guenter, Andrew Foote, Faird Rener, Scott McCagherty and Cailen Pybus. This phase of work focuses on the production/construction of “shacks” that thematically speak of various building concepts, techniques and technologies.

Cailen has been resuscitating the triceratops modeling cues particularly with regards to the relationship to the horn/absence of horn question. Basically, it was a theoretical question relative to the inflection point that occurs when what in a positive sense transitions from a singly-horned beast to an x-horned beast. The question was what happens as one transitions through the inversion at number of horns is equal to zero to negative horns or openings. In a sense, it goes back to the question of reading the skull, which Andrew originated with respect to Murakami's Hard Boiled Wonderland.
There is always a human hand somewhere in the mix.
